Abby Wambach says 'truth will come out' after arrest

Retired U.S. soccer star Abby Wambach briefly spoke to reporters Tuesday after giving a speech at the University of Kentucky, pledging to provide more details of her arrest in the future.

After her arrest early Sunday morning in Portland, Ore., the two-time Olympic gold medalist and World Cup champion was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants, and her lawyer entered a plea of not guilty on her behalf Tuesday in Multnomah County Circuit Court.

She said she was not able to comment on the specific details of the ongoing case.

“I will at some point completely be transparent and the truth will come out, so trust me on that,” she said. “I hope I’m good for my word on that.”

Although she said the past couple days have been hard, she never considered canceling her appearance at the university.

“For me to talk about my life and to give teachable moments out to these students tonight is something that I’m really grateful for.”

She spoke as the Women of the World Speaker hosted by the school’s Student Activities Board.
