RIO 2016

Allyson Felix keeps climbing in record books

USA TODAY Sports

RIO DE JANEIRO — Allyson Felix walks away from Olympic Stadium in Rio after the 2016 Games as the most decorated woman in American track and field history.

Allyson Felix crosses the finish line in the 4x400 relay.

But there is more. Her nine Olympic medals, including six gold (plus three silver) ,,,

►Tie her with Merlene Ottey for the most ever by a female Olympian.

►Leave her third among all track and field athletes (excluding the 1906 Games) behind Paavo Nurmi (12) and Carl Lewis (10).

►Rank her fourth among American women in total medals, behind swimmers Dara Torres, Jenny Thompson and Natalie Coughlin.

►Tie her for second among American women in gold medals, behind only Thompson (and even with Amy Van Dyken).

►Tie her for fifth among all female Olympians in gold medals.

In Rio she added a silver from the 400, in a narrow loss to Shaunae Miller of Bahamas, and she claimed gold in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

And then there is the impact on her competition, her teammates and her sport. That is much harder to quantify but, like the medal tally, abundant.
