Karl-Anthony Towns working on 'secretive stuff' this offseason

Karl-Anthony Towns looks on after a foul is called in the second half against the Indiana Pacers.

Karl-Anthony Towns is 21 years old and already flirting with superstar status. His ceiling is endless, and in his second season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, he gave the basketball world another glimpse at what he's capable of becoming.

Though the NBA season officially came to a close on Monday night when the Golden State Warriors dethroned the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals, the T'Wolves' season ended in early April, as they missed the postseason for the 13th consecutive year. Towns has spent a good portion of the past two months traveling (he visited Paris and went to the French Open) and playing video games (like Call of Duty: WWII, which he promotes), but he's still found plenty of time to get in the gym and work on his game.

“I’ve got some things I’ve been looking at and I want to do,” Towns told The Star Tribune. “It’s going to be really cool to show it off.”

Anything specific?

“Always secretive stuff,” he said. “Nobody knew I had the one-legged fadeaway until I pulled it out. I always have something in my toolbox waiting to come out.”

We have no reason not to believe Towns, whose game evolved significantly in his second season. He upped his per-game averages to 25.1 points (from 18.3) and 12.3 rebounds (from 10.5), ranking first and sixth among centers, respectively.

Towns also knocked down 1.2 three-pointers per game at a 36.7% clip (0.4 makes, 34.1% as a rookie), got to the free throw line more often (5.2 attempts per game; 3.4 attempts as a rookie) and added new moves (like a left-handed hook and the aforementioned one-legged fadeaway) to his scoring arsenal — so the "toolbox" claim holds plenty of weight.

Is it October yet?
