INDIANAPOLIS — Mike Pence confirmed via Tweet what IndyStar broke on Tuesday: He will attend the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday.

The vice president and former Indiana governor noted that "Going to the Indy 500 has been a Pence tradition for decades."

The Vice President of the United States and former Indiana governor will fly to Indianapolis, an IndyStar source confirmed. Any official role he might have in the Sunday’s festivities has not been revealed.

Pence was recently in Indiana to speak at Notre Dame’s commencement ceremony.

Doug Boles, Indianapolis Motor Speedway president, said Thursday that Pence will attend but have no official role in race festivities.
