ESPN fires Curt Schilling following anti-transgender post on Facebook

Broadcaster Curt Schilling has been fired by ESPN in the wake of outrage following a Facebook post against the transgender community.

In a statement, the network said "ESPN is an inclusive company. Curt Schilling has been advised that his conduct was unacceptable and his employment with ESPN has been terminated."

Schilling has a history of making controversial remarks. A tweet comparing the Muslim community to Nazis got him suspended from the network during the MLB playoffs last season.

Schilling's Facebook post was a shared meme lashing out against supporters of transgender restroom rights, along with the comment "a man is a man no matter what they call themselves." In a post on his personal website, Schilling dismissed the reaction as people "who are just dying to be offended so you can create some sort of faux cause to rally behind. "I made a comment about the basic functionality of mens and womens restrooms, period," he wrote.

Schilling, who pitched 19 seasons in the majors and won three World Series titles, had been employed at ESPN since 2010.
