Jeff LeFlore captured the championship at 195 pounds to help boost the West Allis Central wrestling team to fourth place at the Badger Invitational on Jan. 14.
LeFlore pinned Tony Mastrocola of Waterford in 1 minute, 30 seconds in his championship match.
LeFlore (20-6) won his first two matches with pins in 1:39 and 1:00 before being pinned in 4:52 in the third round. He battled back with an 11-0 major decision and his pin of Mastrocola.
That was Central's only championship, but four wrestlers finished second in their weight classes.
They were Edwin Jiminez Perez at 120 pounds (4-1 on the day and 16-5 for the season), Richard Talsky at 126 (3-2, 10-12), Dustin Diebitz at 182 (3-2, 17-6) and Darrius Adkins at 220 (4-1, 13-5).
Taking fifth places were Zachary Meyer (145 pounds), Jake Schultz (170) and heavyweight Prentiss Johnson. Tim Seymour also wrestled at heavyweight for the Bulldogs, finishing fourth but not scoring any points. Seymour was pinned by Johnson in 3:08 in the sixth round.
Coming in seventh were Carson Matysik (113), Alex DeJesus (138) and Devan Kotas (152). Finishing eighth were Hailey Lenz (106) and Alex Herrejon (160), and Devin Dietrich (132) placed 10th.
The Bulldogs scored 204 points for fourth place in the 10-team field, trailing Waterford with 298½, Sun Prairie with 280 and Badger with 238½ points. Among the teams they beat was North Shore Conference favorite Port Washington (sixth with 162 points).
Central dropped Brookfield East, 47-28, in a Greater Metro Conference dual meet on Jan. 12 behind pins by LeFlore, Diebitz and Talsky.
The Bulldogs compete at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at Brookfield Central and then take part in the Zielinski Invitational at Whitnall at 7 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21. That traditionally strong field is slated to include Franklin, Beaver Dam, Hartford, Stoughton and Merrill.
