Peyton Mocco claimed second place at 152 pounds for the West Allis Hale wrestling team at the Oshkosh Lourdes On the Water Tournament last week.

Mocco went 5-1 in the prestigious event, earning a first-round bye; pinning two foes in 2 minutes, 25 seconds and 3:08; posting a 7-2 decision in the quarterfinals and an 18-4 major decision in the semifinals; and dropping a 4-2 decision to Nate Trepanier of Oconto Falls (16-1) in the title match.

He emerged from the tournament with a 23-1 record on the season.

Mocco was one of three place-winners for the Huskies. Charlie Wagner took seventh at 113 pounds, going 5-2 for the tournament and raising his season record to 24-4, and Marshall Rushton took eighth place at 138, finishing 4-3 and improving to 24-4.

"The entire Hale wrestling team had a very good showing at Oshkosh," coach Randy Ferrell said. "We have a lot of young men who are really stepping up and doing great things. We have several guys who are taking the lead, such as Wagner, Rushton and Mocco."

Other Hale competitors were Conner Rodriguez (106 pounds), Alex Sino (120), Alex Loing (126), Brandon Baltz (132), Bryan Jordan (145), Cody Kibler (160), Austin Spitzer (170), Dylan Allen (182), Juniel Vega (195), Justin Schroeder (220) and Dalton Wetley (heavyweight).

Ferrell said he was proud of his team's effort against the top-level competition.

"A 64-man bracket filled with top talent from all divisions and multiple states is a big task to work through," the coach continued. "I give all of our athletes credit for how they wrestled and how we are working as a team. 'Man to the left, man to the right' is a motto that we are rallying behind to stay focused and ready for the rest of the season."

Hale tallied 141½ points for 16th place in the large field.

The Huskies take on Whitnall/Greendale at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, at Greendale and then host their own invitational at 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7.
