The season did not get off to a good start for the West Allis Hale football team.

The Huskies dropped their opener to Waterford, 21-3, in a shortened game Aug. 19, managing only a 20-yard field goal from Brandon Barr in the first quarter.

Quarterback Michael Johnson completed sevenĀ of 11 passes for 77 yards for Hale, which accumulated 102 yards.

Waterford, which has been a solid team in recent seasons, tallied one touchdown in the first period and two more in the second to take command.

The Huskies now take on South Milwaukee at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at the West Allis Athletic Field. The Rockets lost their first game, 31-13, to Sussex Hamilton, although quarterback Jake Simuncak passed for 201 yards and ran for 147 more.
