For coach Dave Mlachnik, the final game of the season for the West Allis Central boys reflected the way much of the year had gone.

The Bulldogs dropped their WIAA Division 1 regional opener to Racine Horlick, 72-62, on March 4 to end their campaign at 8-15. Central lost its last six games.

'The game went the same way the season went,' Mlachnik said. 'We just had some tough times this year. We had kids not following the game plan and not doing the little things, especially on defense.'

The game was close early on, but Horlick pulled away to a 37-25 halftime lead and then was up by as many as 20 points in the second half. Central rallied a bit to make the final score more respectable.

Tony Thomas scored 15 points to lead Central, with Geo Owens adding 10 points and Montae Blakely and Kelvin Harris each 9 points. Lamontae Lewis tallied 25 points for the Rebels.

'The kids have to buy into the program and do all the little things,' the coach said. 'The positive is that we were a young team and have a lot coming back next season. We just have to see who does the hard work in the off-season.'
