The diving tradition is alive and well with the 2016-17 Whitnall squad.

Sophomore David Haun and junior Stephan Rausch will both represent the Falcons in diving at this week's WIAA Division 2 State Meet.

Haun came in second with 373.6 points in a sectional meet on Feb. 11 at Whitefish Bay, and Rausch was third with 334.45 points to earn tickets to the state meet on Friday, Feb. 17, at the University of Wisconsin Natatorium.

Haun and Rausch continue a run of success for the Falcons in both boys and girls diving over the years.

Senior Ben Bell qualified for the state meet in two swimming events by finishing fourth in the 50-yard freestyle with 22.82 seconds and fourth in the 100 freestyle at 50.31 seconds.

Bell will take part in the swimming finals, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the natatorium.

The 200 freestyle team of David Gonzales, Matthew Bass, Bell and Isaiah Haun came in fourth (1 minute, 37.87 seconds) but did not qualify for state.

The 400 freestyle unit of Trever Thiemer, Bell, Isaiah Haun and Gonzales came in fifth (3:37.26).

Alex Salmon placed sixth in the 100 butterfly (1:02.18), and Jacob Nape was sixth in diving (283.3 points).

Isaiah Haun took seventh in the 200 freestyle (1:55.88) and 500 freestyle (5:15.19), and eighth places went to David Haun in the 100 backstroke (1:02.75) and the 200 medley group of David Haun, Bass, Salmon and Thiemer (1:55.6).

Also for Whitnall, Gonzales took 10th in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.8), Salmon 11th in the 100 backstroke (1:10.74), Gonzales 12th in the 50 freestyle (24.51), Kyle Strom 13th in the 100 butterfly (1:12.91) and Bass 14th in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.54).

The Falcons took fourth with 229 points in the sectional, which was won by Nicolet at 337 points.
