Ben Davis won both the 200-yard freestyle and the 1,000 freestyle for the Greenfield/Greendale/Pius XI boys swimming team in the Metro Officials Meet on Dec. 28 at Homestead.
Davis took the 200 freestyle in 1 minute, 50.23 seconds and the 1,000 freestyle with 10:08.18 to send the Greenfield co-op squad on its way to a strong fifth place with 254 points in the prestigious meet, which was won by Arrowhead with 486 points.
Teammate Isaac Jiardini joined Davis in the winners' circle by claiming the 200 breaststroke with 2:22.64.
The meet featured such traditional powers as Muskego (third with 272 points), Marquette (sixth with 205), Homestead (seventh with 193) and Shorewood (eighth, 109).
Coach Dale Schrank had said the meet would pose a strong test for his squad, making the first places by Davis and Jiardini that much more impressive.
Steve Novinska came in fourth in the 100 butterfly (1:01.23), and fifth places went to Jiardini in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.47) and Jackson Zgola in the 200 breaststroke (2:28.32).
Taking sixth were Zgola in the 100 breaststroke (1:09) and Harrison Stasik in the 200 backstroke (2:18.02), and coming in eighth were Bharat Kothapalli in the 200 butterfly (2:51.97) and the 200 medley unit of Stasik, Jiardini, Dominic Cory and Novinska (1:48.14).
Finishing ninth were Novinska in the 200 backstroke (2:19.63), Brandon Washburn in the 200 butterfly (3:16.9), Ryan Haessly in the 1,000 freestyle (12:22.53), Stasik in the 100 backstroke (1:02.15) and the 200 freestyle squad of Davis, Carmelo Patti, Novinska and Stasik (1:35.96). Mike Rodriguez took 10th in the 200 butterfly (3:18.34).
