Top-rated Marquette ended the Greenfield/Whitnall boys volleyball team's season in WIAA sectional action on Nov. 1 at Marquette.
The Hilltoppers downed the Raptors, 25-14, 25-10, 25-16, in a sectional semifinal match. Marquette then went on to claim the sectional championship with another victory on Nov. 3 and will have the top seed in the state tournament this weekend at Wisconsin Lutheran College.
Charlie Riegg collected six kills; Danny Palmer two service aces and eight assists; Tom Kolasinski two blocks; Austin Marshall two aces and two kills; and Brady Cunningham three assists for the Raptors.
"The Raptors were no match for top-ranked Marquette," Chris Riegg said, "but the team showed improvement over the 2015 squad."
Greenfield/Whitnall won a couple of Woodland Conference matches this season and then topped Greendale to capture a regional championship.
The team will lose seniors Marshall and Cunningham, both starters, but will return some other key players as it looks to continue its upward trend in the 2017 season.
