Placing five runners in the top 10, the Whitnall girls cross-country team captured the championship in its own invitational on Sept. 8.

Katie Klages ran second at Hales Corners Park with 22 minutes, 48 seconds, followed by Savannah Holt in third (22:49), Bridget Finn fifth (23:01), Alyssa Tolson eighth (23:18) and Dijana Mitrovic ninth (24:02).

Klages is the lone senior and Holt the only junior in that group.

The Falcons tallied 27 points to top Pius XI with 58 points and New Berlin Eisenhower with 63 points in the field, which featured six complete teams.

The Whitnall boys came in sixth with 129 points behind Reid Miller, sixth, and LaShaun Dobbie, seventh (both 18:55). Eli Mitchell placed 23rd (20:30), Josh Cram 46th (23:26) and Nathan Steyn 47th (23:53).

Pius XI won that meet with 43 points, followed by West Allis Hale with 67 points and New Berlin Eisenhower with 93 points in an eight-team field.

Both Whitnall squads will next compete at Grant Park on Friday, Sept. 16, with the girls running at 4:15 p.m. and the boys at about 5 p.m.
