Kyle Johnsen has been hired as the new Greenfield High School head boys basketball coach.
Johnsen is a graduate of rival Greendale High School and played baseball, football and basketball at St. Norbert College, serving as a two-time team captain for basketball.
He was the head coach at West Bend West, helping a struggling program make some strides in the past season. The Spartans finished 9-14, including 5-9 in the Wisconsin Little Ten Conference.
'The basketball program at Greenfield has great upside and a lot of potential due to the work ethic and tough-nosed mindset of the student-athletes at GHS,' Johnsen said. 'I am excited for this great opportunity and eager to get to work right away.'
Athletic director Trent Lower said, 'Coach Johnsen possesses the qualifications, energy and work ethic that fit perfectly for what our boys basketball program needs now and in the years to come.'
Lower said Johnsen beat out a number of qualified applicants for the position.
Johnsen will take over for Jack Miller, who resigned several weeks ago.
