Behind six victories, the Greenfield/Greendale/Pius XI boys swimming team came in a solid fifth place in the Homestead Metro Invitational on Dec. 29.

The combined squad tallied 260 points in the 12-team meet, which was won by Arrowhead with 484 points and featured other state powers such as Shorewood, Muskego and Marquette.

Isaac Jiardini won the 400-yard individual medley with 4 minutes, 21.8 seconds and the 200 IM at 2:05.12, with Rick Davis prevailing in both the 100 breaststroke with 1:02.05 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:16.18.

Also winning were Ben Davis in the 200 freestyle at 1:50.06 and Tyler Lustig in the 100 butterfly with 53.78 seconds.

Finishing second were Lustig in the 200 butterfly (2:01.8), Ben Davis in the 500 freestyle (5:00.63) and the 200 medley relay team of Jiardini, Rick Davis, Lustig and Ben Davis (1:43.7). The unit topped two relays from powerful Arrowhead.

'Beating Arrowhead's A and B relays was fun,' coach Dale Schrank said, 'but in reality, they had split their relays to increase their point totals and put pressure on more swimmers.'

The 200 freestyle group of both Davises, Lustig and Steve Novinska came in sixth (1:34.44), and eighth places went to Jackson Zgola in the 400 IM (5:06.63) and Novinska in the 200 backstroke (2:16.1).

Schrank said other swimmers who did well included Ryan Haessly, Matt Ballman, Zach Semancik, Carmello Patti and Ray Smith.

'Traditionally, this is a very tough meet,' Schrank said. 'Teams are training very hard, and all the over-distance events make it especially difficult. Our boys did well.'

The PG-squared team participates in the Marquette Invitational at 11:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at the Schroeder Aquatic Center.
