Americans Jordan Spieth, Matt Kuchar and Brooks Koepka were among the golfers atop the leaderboard heading into the weekend at the British Open.

Spieth shot a 1-under 69 on Friday to take a two-stroke lead into the third round.

One American who failed to make the cut, however, was Phil Mickelson, who shot a 7-over 77 on Friday. After struggling early in the first round, Rory McIlroy surged into contention on Friday, shooting a 2-under 68 on Friday.
