Andretti team turns race car into disco ball

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy 500 is as much a celebration of IndyCar as it is about the iconic race itself, and Andretti Autosport partied the night before with the most fantastic and innovative party decoration: A race car disco ball.

Hanging from the ceiling of the team's race shop a few miles north of Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a show car lined with just shy of 80,000 half-inch mirror tiles, covering nearly every surface of the car. According to the team, the tiles were glued to the car by hand, requiring 200 hours of labor over the course of eight days.

And it did not disappoint.

The team first had the idea for a disco ball car in 2012 ahead of its "Studio 500"-themed party, and with the help of the production company Andretti Autosport partnered with for The Night Before Party, this spectacular creation finally became a reality.
