Kevin Durant's "breakup" with Russell Westbrook continues to get frostier as the 2016-17 season approaches.

Their back-and-forth through the media continued on Wednesday, in a cover story for Rolling Stone, Durant had this to say about his relationship with the point guard:

As close as people presumed he and Westbrook had been, they were never much more than work friends, he says. "We had our own cliques that we hung with on the road. Russell had his guys, I had mine. It was never a bad thing. Just how it was."

Durant said he texted Westbrook with the news he was leaving Oklahoma City for Golden State, but called Thunder owner Clay Bennett and general manager Sam Presti to deliver it.

Is this another case of, as Charles Barkley said, Durant "making himself a villain" by taking a shot at Westbrook and the Thunder? Probably not, but it's proof Durant's relationship with Westbrook might have been icier than we thought.

Now? It's below freezing.
