Ben Davis won a pair of events to help the Greenfield/Greendale/Pius XI boys swimming team take a strong third place at the Kenosha Bradford Invitational on Jan. 21.

Davis claimed the gold medal in both the 200-yard freestyle and the 500 freestyle to lead the "PG-squared" team, which tallied 322 points to trail Bay Port with 678 points and Franklin with 615 points in the 16-team meet.

Greenfield/Greendale/Pius XI beat Woodland Conference foes New Berlin, Whitnall (12th with 80 points, but no results were available), South Milwaukee and Cudahy.

Davis teamed with Jackson Zgola, Steve Novinska, Carmelo Patti and Harrison Stasik to take third place in the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay. Isaac Jiardini joined Novinska, Stasik and Patti for sixth place in the 200 medley relay.

Overall, the co-op team won medals in all three relays and two individual events.

Coach Dale Schrank said Collin Hassel and Ryan Haessly also put forth strong efforts in the meet, but he wants his team needs to turn it up a bit more as the season comes to a close.

"With only four weeks left, we need to start swimming with a little more 'baditude,'" Schrank said. "We have only one more invite to get ready for the big meets at the end of the season. The upcoming week is our last week of race rehearsals before the taper meets. We need to up our concentration level quickly."

The squad met South Milwaukee in a dual meet earlier this week and will compete in the Bob White Invitational at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at Wauwatosa West.

Greenfield/Greendale/Pius XI will then prepare for the Woodland Conference Meet on Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Greenfield Natatorium.
