Trump can’t defeat evil: Second Look

New views on talkers.

President Trump

Letter to the editor:

Contrary to James Robbins’ column in USA TODAY, “Manchester bombing shows Donald Trump is right,” the Manchester bombing does not show that President Trump is right — quite the opposite.

On the campaign trail, Trump wanted to ban Muslims and when he became president, he attempted to follow through on that promise with an executive order that was struck down in court.

Salman Abedi, the man identified as the perpetrator of the attack, was born in Manchester, England. A ban on immigrants from Muslim-majority countries would not have stopped Abedi from committing this heinous act.

Manchester bombing shows Donald Trump is right

Robbins is right that we must fight terrorists in moral domain, but Trump completely lacks the moral fiber required of a leader to lead a fight against evil.

Trump, who in every one of his books states how important winning is, called the terrorists “evil losers” because in his mind, losing is worse than being a monster.

You don’t win a moral fight with name-calling and harsh rhetoric. You don’t win a moral fight by being willing to stoop to the level of terrorists. You win a moral fight with love, kindness and mercy. Trump’s ultimate goal is winning, and if he must sacrifice love, kindness and mercy to win, then he will not hesitate to do so.

As long as Trump remains president of the United States, we will lose the war on terror.
