WEST ALLIS - Police are alerting residents to beware of anyone posing as a West Allis firefighter and asking to come in to perform an inspection.

A West Allis resident reported that a man came to his home saying he was from the West Allis Fire Department and wanted to do a “fireplace inspection.” The resident called police, who verified that the man was not a West Allis firefighter.

Police are now advising that residents ask for identification from anyone contacting them and claiming to be a West Allis firefighter. Police also noted that all fire department personnel would be in uniform and would be able to produce an identification card.

Also, the fire department does not perform chimney or fireplace inspections in homes, police said. To verify identities of possible fire inspectors, call the fire department at 414-302-8903, police advise.
