WEST ALLIS — Camping season is almost here, and the West Allis Sunshiners chapter of the Wisconsin Campers Association plans its first campout on April 28-30 in Illinois at the Chain O'Lakes State Park.

The club invites everyone to come camp with them for a weekend. If they like it, they are welcome to join. More information is available from Bob Murrie,

West Allis residents started the chapter, but members come from all over, including northern Illinois. The club typically camps in southern Wisconsin and in northeastern Illinois. Most members have RVs, but tent campers are members, too.

The 2017 camping schedule:

April 28-30 Chain O'Lakes State Park

May 12-14 Badgerland Campground in Stoughton, Wisconsin

May 26-29 Paradise Camping Resort in Garden Prairie, Illinois

July 1-4 Grand Valley Campground in Dalton, Wisconsin

July 14-16 Country View Campground in Mukwonago

Sept. 1-4 Glacier Valley Campground in Cambria, Wisconsin

Sept. 14-17 Holiday Shores Campground at the Wisconsin Dells

Sept. 29-Oct. 1 Indian Trails Campground in Pardeeville

Oct. 14-16 Country View Campground in Mukwonago.

The West Allis Sunshiners chapter was formed and became part of the Wisconsin Campers Association in 1972.

The Sunshiners is a group of about 15 families who enjoy the outdoors and the camaraderie of camping with friends. Members are infants to grandparents with multi-generational families in the mix.

Camp outs vary from a simple weekend get-together to outings where games and group meals are planned.

In late fall and winter, the West Allis Sunshiners have a Christmas party and a winter outing. Fall and winter monthly chapter meetings are held at a Milwaukee business.
