WEST ALLIS — A trial has been set for June 26 for a 27-year-old East Troy man who faces multiple charges in a fatal crash at Greenfield Avenue and 98th Street in West Allis.
A 50-year-old Menomonee Falls man died in the crash and a passenger in the other car was seriously injured.
Corkey Joe Mayer, 2786 E. Main St., is charged with hit and run resulting in death, hit and run resulting in great bodily harm, driving after license revocation causing death and driving after revocation causing great bodily harm, and refusing to take a test for intoxication after being arrested. He pleaded not guilty March 10. Mayer remains in custody.
The maximum penalty if convicted of all charges is nearly 50 years in prison.
The crash happened about 1:15 a.m. Feb. 23.
Thomas Jorgenson died at the scene. The car he was driving was hit with such force that it was in the shape of a crescent, according to a criminal complaint filed in Milwaukee County Circuit Court. Due to the violence of the impact, police suspect speed was a factor, the complaint says.
Mayer's passenger, Sara Kaufman, 23, sustained two broken legs, a broken ankle and teeth were knocked out, according to the complaint. She was taken to Froedtert Hospital where she underwent surgery to save her legs, the complaint says.
Mayer required 20 stitches to close a wound on his lower lip, the complaint says. Mayer fled on foot after the accident but was arrested following a short chase through backyards.
