After one suspect sped away and later crashed while a companion was being taken into custody, West Allis police now have both suspects in the robbery of the Speedway gas station at 715 S. 108th St.

Both men are from Milwaukee.

Police responded at 12:38 a.m. Monday, to a holdup alarm at the station, 715 S. 108th St. While officers were responding, a Wisconsin state trooper radioed that he was behind a vehicle on Interstate 94 suspected of being the one involved in the incident.

A high risk traffic stop was initiated on the I-94 eastbound off-ramp at S. 70 Street with the trooper and police squads.  While the driver was being ordered back toward officers, the passenger jumped into the driver’s seat and  floored it. While the officers tried to catch up, Deputy West Allis Police Chief Robert Fletcher said he would not describe the pursuit as a chase, from the information available as of Monday afternoon. Polcie cars didn't get close enough to for the incident to be called a pursuit, he said.

Officers soon located the vehicle which had been involved in a on-car crash as it headed east on I-94 at the Stadium Interchange. The driver was located and transported to a local hospital for serious injuries. No one else was injured as a result of the crash, Fletcher said.

A weapon was not used in the robbery where cigarette cartons were stolen. The cigarettes were found in the vehicle, Fletcher said.

West Allis is not searching for any other suspects.  Police were assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol, the Milwaukee Police Department, the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office and the West Milwaukee Police Department.
