GREENFIELD - After foot chases and a car chase that hit speeds of more than 100 mph, two suspects in the theft of a vehicle at the Braeger Ford Auto Dealership, 4201 S. 27th St., in Greenfield were taken into custody early Wednesday, July 5.
When Greenfield police arrived at the dealership after being called about 5:30 a.m., a thief was trying to drive a stolen vehicle out of the parking lot, police said. Police squads moved to block the car, which almost hit one of the squads before jumping a curb and fleeing.
A police chase followed until speeds hit more than 100 mph, at which time officers broke off their pursuit for the safety of citizens, police said.
The stolen car later crashed in Greendale where police took a suspect into custody after a foot chase.
Meanwhile, back at the Braeger dealership, the vehicle in which the thieves had arrived was fleeing, also. Greenfield police used stop sticks to stop that vehicle. The driver got away. The vehicle had been stolen in Waukesha, police said.
Greenfield police were able to catch a suspect at the lot following a foot chase.
Both suspects in custody are juveniles. Police are seeking at least three more, based on surveillance video, police said.
During their investigation, Greenfield police found that a similar burglary had occurred nearby at the Enterprise Rent-A-Car, 4377 S. 27th St. Although entry was made, no vehicles are believed to have been stolen, police said.
