Burglary

A coffee table and a bicycle were reported stolen out of a locked storage locker in the 4800 block of South 29th Street at 11:05 p.m. Jan. 25.

Theft

A $250 Epiphone SG Pro Silverburst guitar was reported stolen at Music Go Round, 5042 S. 74th St., at 7:20 p.m. Jan. 23. The suspect was later identified, taken into custody and cited for shoplifting.

Two men shoplifted a three-tiered rack containing about 50 lighters at Citgo, 8333 W. Layton Ave., at about 7:15 p.m. Jan. 24. The men are described as two white males with facial hair.

A woman was taken into custody for trying to sell stolen books to Half Price Books, 4935 S. 76th St., which had just been stolen from Barnes & Noble at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 25. She was cited for receiving stolen property.

Tires and rims, valued at $900, were reported stolen off a 2017 GMC Sierra at John Paul’s Buick GMC, 3615 S. 108th St., at about 12:25 a.m. Jan. 26.

A Sig Sauer .380 automatic pistol loaded with one magazine was reported stolen in the 3000 block of West Kimberly Avenue at 2 p.m. Jan. 28. The owner told police he last saw the weapon in the trunk of his car.

A set of keys, a wallet and a sweatshirt were reported stolen out of the men’s locker room at Xperience Fitness, 6271 S. 27th St., at 4:15 p.m. Jan. 28.

A Samsung Galaxy S7 was reported stolen out of an unlocked locker at the Southwest YMCA, 11311 W. Howard Ave., at 5:50 p.m. Jan. 28.

A man shoplifted a rack containing about $250 worth of Bic lighters at Mobil Gas, 5909 S. 27th St., at about 12:50 p.m. Jan. 29.

A tire was reported stolen off a 1999 Saturn in the 4200 block of South 60th Street at 7:15 p.m. Feb. 1.

Two ferrets were reported stolen at Pet World Warehouse Outlet, 5415 S 27th St., at 8:10 p.m. Feb. 3. An employee told police two black males in their 20s or 30s stole the ferrets and fled in a dark colored SUV.

A 2012 brown Honda Civic was stolen in the 10100 block of West Cold Spring Road between 2 and 10 a.m. Feb. 4.

A catalytic converter was stolen off a 1999 Honda Accord parked at Xperience Fitness, 6251 S. 27th St., between 9 and 10 a.m. Feb. 4.

A male shoplifted a guitar by concealing it under his coat at Music Go Round, 5042 S. 74th St., at 5:45 p.m. Feb. 2. The theft was captured on surveillance video and police have photos of the suspect.

Assault

Police received a report that a man was assaulted by a former friend in front of Xperience Fitness, 6271 S. 27th St., at about 8:55 p.m. Jan. 24. The victim suffered lacerations to his face and head, requiring stitches and staples. His former friend, who apparently assaulted him over a past disagreement, was taken into custody for substantial battery.

A pregnant woman reported her husband physically attacked her in their room at Hideaway Inn, 5105 S. 27th St., and then fled in a silver Dodge Intrepid at about 5 p.m. Jan. 28. The man was taken into custody early the next morning when he returned to the room and tried to get inside. He is facing a charge of domestic violence/disorderly conduct.

Drug possession

Officers responding to a report of two males passed out inside a vehicle with two flat tires in the 4200 block of South 27th Street took both men into custody at about 4:15 p.m. Jan. 26. One of the men was taken into custody for possession of heroin;, the other was taken into custody for having a warrant. Both were taken to jail.

Officers investigating a suspicious, occupied vehicle in the 6100 block of West Layton Avenue took a man into custody for possession of fentanyl and drug paraphernalia, and for having a warrant at 1:55 a.m. Jan. 29. He was booked, cited and taken to jail.

A man was taken into custody for possession of heroin after he was cited for shoplifting at Pick ’n Save, 4279 S. 76th St., at about 5:40 p.m. Jan. 30.

A man was taken into custody for possession of narcotics after he was found, passed out and not breathing, inside his residence in the 6700 block of West English Meadows Drive at noon Feb. 2. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation, brought back to the police station for booking and taken to jail.

OWI

A man was taken into custody for OWI after he crashed his vehicle into a plow truck that was stopped on the side of the road on South 94th Street and West Howard Avenue at about 3 a.m. Jan. 26. He was also cited for an unsafe lane deviation and no insurance. A preliminary breath test indicated a blood alcohol content of 0.15.

A man was taken into custody for second offense OWI in the 3000 block of West Layton Avenue at 1:45 a.m. Feb. 5. He was taken to the hospital for a blood draw.

Accidents

A 36-year-old man died in a fatal car crash on South 27th Street and West Layton Avenue at about 5:40 p.m. Jan. 23. The man’s vehicle was stopped behind another vehicle at a red light when he suddenly rear-ended the vehicle in front of him two times. He then swerved around it that vehicle, ran the red light and crashed into a pole. When police arrived the man was pinned inside his vehicle and had to be extricated. Police believe the man may have suffered from some sort of medical issue while driving, which caused the collision. The other driver was also injured in the crash and was taken to the hospital.

A man was taken into custody for domestic violence/recklessly endangering safety for yanking on the steering wheel while his wife was driving, causing their vehicle to crash in the 10900 block of West Morgan Avenue at 10:50 a.m. Feb. 4. The two were arguing when the accident occurred.

Vandalism

Officers responding to a report that an intoxicated male was stumbling around the front of George Webb Restaurant, 4845 W. Forest Home Ave., took the man into custody at about 4:30 a.m. Jan. 26. The man had spray paint in his possession, and police found numerous businesses and bus shelters in the area that had been tagged. He was cited for vandalism and taken to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission.

Someone damaged the key lock on a Pontiac G3 parked at the Southwest YMCA, 11311 W. Howard Ave., in an attempt to steal the vehicle between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. Feb. 4.

Fire

Emergency personnel responded to a kitchen fire inside an apartment at Heritage Lake Apartments, 5020 S. 55th St., at about 7:20 p.m. Jan. 29. Police helped firefighters evacuate the building, and one woman was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Emergency personnel responded to a fire in the kitchen at Lychee Garden, 7920 W. Layton Ave., at 2:05 p.m. Feb. 5. The fire was extinguished and no injuries were reported.

Other

An anonymous caller reported seeing a “pretty bird” under the freeway in the 4600 block of South 84th Street, and wanted police to make sure it was okay at 9:05 a.m. Feb. 4. An officer responded to the area but found no pretty birds, just pigeons.

An intoxicated man was taken into custody for domestic violence/disorderly conduct and vandalism for damaging items and punching his grandmother’s bedroom door in the 7100 block of West Forest Home Avenue at 6:35 p.m. Feb. 5. He was also taken into custody for resisting arrest and threatening a police officer and was taken to jail.
