A resident in the 4400 block of South 47th Street reported a man came into his home and stole his dead wife’s ashes and rosaries on Sept. 19. The victim told police the suspect, who said he was the son of the person who installed the victim’s roof a year ago, stated he needed to get inside the home to check on the status of the roof. The suspect was last seen leaving the area in a newer blue Chevy pickup truck.
Multiple tools were stolen out of a garage in the 8700 block of West Allerton Avenue at about 4:25 a.m. Sept. 20. The suspect, described as a five-foot, nine-inch-tall male weighing about 200 pounds, also damaged a motorcycle in the garage and tried to steal a generator. The suspect entered the garage through an unlocked side door.
An iPad and cell phone were stolen from a garage in the 4100 block of South 99th Street between 12:30 and 7 a.m. Sept. 23. The suspect(s) entered the attached garage through an unlocked service door.
Tools were stolen out of the back of a van parked at 1st Service Title & Closing, 3380 S. 108th St., between 11:35 and 11:40 a.m. Sept. 21.
One woman was taken into custody for driving a vehicle without the owner’s consent and another woman was taken into custody for obstructing police after they were caught driving a stolen vehicle on South 27th Street and West Edgerton Avenue at about 3:30 a.m. Sept. 22.
Four tires were stolen off a vehicle in the lot at Gordie Boucher Nissan, 4141 S. 108th St., between the late evening hours of Sept. 22 and the early morning hours of Sept. 23.
Over $600 was reported stolen from a woman’s purse at Oak Crest Villa, 8765 W. Forest Home Ave., at 11 a.m. Sept. 24.
A woman was taken into custody for second offense OWI on South 68th Street and West Holmes Avenue at 12:30 a.m. Sept. 22. She was taken to the hospital for a blood draw.
Both passenger side tires were slashed on a vehicle parked in the 9400 block of West Cold Spring Road between 1 and 5 a.m. Sept. 21.
Emergency personnel responded to a fire in an apartment in the 7000 block of West Southridge Drive at 8:45 p.m. Sept. 24. The apartment building was evacuated, but only one apartment was damaged by the fire.
Police went to a home in the 3300 block of West Cold Spring Road after a caller reported there was a suspicious, occupied vehicle parked in the back yard at about 1:15 a.m. Sept. 19. The man inside the vehicle told police his son, who lived in the home, gave him permission to park there to catch raccoons that were eating plums off his son’s plum tree.
Officers chasing a group of 12 sport bikes that were going about 100 mph while traveling east on West Layton Avenue took one of the bikers, an adult male, into custody for eluding at about 11:30 p.m. Sept. 22. The man was taken into custody after he either fell off or laid down his bike near South 27th Street and West Grange Avenue.
