A suspect in an armed robbery was fatally shot by police officers early Saturday morning, May 13 in the area of 60th Street and Beloit Road.

According to a post by the West Allis Police Department on its Facebook page, at approximately 1:15 a.m. Saturday a West Allis police officer attempted to stop an auto which was involved in an armed robbery of a business a few minutes earlier. The traffic stop occurred in the 6100 block of West Burnham Street.  

A suspect in the auto immediately fired a weapon at the West Allis officer, not striking the officer, according to the post. Several neighboring police departments responded.

Several minutes later, the suspect was located hiding in a dumpster near a closed business in the area of 60th and Beloit.

Officers from the West Allis and New Berlin Police Departments discharged their weapons at the suspect, and he was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene, according to the post. No officers were struck by gunfire or injured in the incident.

The police department said there are no longer any suspects in the area they are seeking.
