Surprise!

While all the tabloids were busy chasing the possibility of George and Amal Clooney expecting a baby (or two), it was Beyoncé, 35, who had big news at the ready.

The pop star and Jay Z, 47, are expecting twins, Beyoncé revealed on her Instagram account Wednesday, sharing an image of her growing bump.

And no one had been the wiser.

"We would like to share our love and happiness. We have been blessed two times over. We are incredibly grateful that our family will be growing by two, and we thank you for your well wishes," read the message, which was signed: "The Carters."

The celeb baby news quickly soared as a trending topic on Twitter, with her Instagram post reaching over 2 million likes in under an hour. Twitter announced that half a million tweets had been sent about the surprise announcement in under 45 minutes.

Beyoncé's pregnancy announcement is giving fans life in a gloomy world

"Beyoncé sensed that we were all in need of good news, and so Beyoncé got pregnant with twins. Beyoncé is a woman of and for the people," declared Twitter user Kelly Andersen.

The power couple share a daughter, Blue Ivy, who turned five on Jan. 7.

Beyoncé is famous for keeping a tight lid within her camp. Last April, she dropped her now Grammy-nominated album Lemonade, complete with a one-hour HBO film at the ready, with zero advance notice or leaks.

Don't expect her to slow down, either. At the close of 2016, USA TODAY named Beyoncé our Musician of the Year; Grammys producers have hinted she'll perform at the awards show on Feb. 12; and this year she's headlining Coachella the weekends of April 14-16 and April 21-23 in Indio, Calif.

Will new music accompany Beyoncé's headlining debut at the California music festival? We wouldn't put it past her.

Congratulations to Bey and Jay!
