Christian Lopez

Christian Lopez has joined the United States Army Reserve under the Delayed Enlistment Program. The program gives young men and women the opportunity to delay reporting for basic military training for up to 270 days while they complete their educations and make preparations for military service.

An enlistment in the Reserve gives many new soldiers the option to learn a new skill, serve their country and become eligible to receive more than $37,440 toward college education and $50,000 for repayment of qualifying college loans.

After completion of basic military training, most soldiers receive advanced individual training in their career job specialties prior to being assigned to their their reserve units.

He reported to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, for basic training in November 2016.

Lopez is the son of Juan Lopez and Karina Lopez of Greenfield.

He is a 2012 graduate of West Allis Central High School.

Melanie Sedlar

U.S. Air Force Airman Melanie Sedlar graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Sedlar is the daughter of Jack Sedlar and Jacqueline Sedlar, both of West Allis.

She is a 2014 graduate of West Allis Central High School.

Andrew W. Smith

U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Andrew W. Smith graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Smith is the son of Carey O'Connell of Hales Corners and Robert Smith of West Allis, and brother of Nora Kozlowski of Greenfield and Joel Miller of Milwaukee. He is also the brother of Annette Smith and husband of Jazmine Smith.

The airman graduated in 2010 from Insight School of Wisconsin, Grantsburg, and earned an associate degree in 2012 from University of Phoenix, Phoenix, Arizona.
